Why Choose Organic?

Organic refers to the way agricultural products are grown and processed.  It is an ecological system that relies on healthy, rich soil to produce plants that resist pests and diseases.  Choosing organic food reduces the risk of exposure to toxic pesticides in our diet.  While we cannot limit all of our children’s exposures to toxins that are in the environment, parents do have a say in the food they eat and the best way to limit their exposure to these chemicals is to choose an organic diet.  The 2008-09 President’s Panel on Cancer report presented that the United States population is exposed to these agricultural chemicals everyday and many of these chemicals are known to cause cancer or disrupt our hormones.  The report goes on to state, “Nearly 1,400 pesticides … registered by the Environmental Protection Agency for agricultural and nonagricultural uses … have been linked to brain/central nervous system, breast, colon, lung, ovarian cancers … as well as Hodgkin’s and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma”.  Not only can it cause higher chance of cancer, but can also weaken the body’s immune system.  Conventional livestock are fed antibiotics and having the human body consume this extra dose of antibiotics can make use overdose, weakening the immune system.  This can reshape our immune systems to where they eventually will be unable to defend itself.  The pages on this website will help parents to make the healthy, beneficial choice for their children in choosing to consume organic products.
